About HSE
History
November 27, 1992 – HSE was established by the Russian Federation Government
1994-1995 – HSE branches were opened in S.-Petersburg, Nizhnii Novgorod and Perm
August 2008 – HSE went under the auspices of the Russian Federation Government
October 2009 – HSE won a status of a National Research University in a nationwide competition
March 2011 – HSE obtained a status of an Autonomous public institution

- HSE is the only university in social sciences and humanities among 29 national research universities in the Russian Federation

- Over 3,100 faculty and research fellows, incl. part-time, visiting and adjunct faculty
Students:
- 16,077 Bachelors and Masters students in all HSE campuses (incl. 8,716 Bachelors and 2,659 Masters students in HSE-Moscow)
- 587 doctoral students
The HSE curricula are designed according to the "4+2" system: a four-year Bachelors programme followed by a two-year Masters programme. Graduates have the opportunity to enter a three-year doctoral level research programme.

Research
Presently the HSE is the biggest centre for socio-economic analysis in Russia and Eastern Europe.
HSE includes:
- 36 research institutes and centers of various profiles (incl. 4 – in HSE regional campuses)
- 10 international research laboratories
- 31 research and teaching laboratory (incl. 6 - in HSE regional campuses)
HSE structure also includes
- the Academic Fund, supporting innovative research and academic mobility at the University,
- the Programme for Fundamental Research launched with the financial support of the Russian Federation Government

Economic Sociology at the HSE
- 120-130 undergraduate students are enrolled for bachelor’s programs at the Dept of Sociology
- 100 graduate students are enrolled for master’s programs at the Dept of Sociology
- 45-50 undergraduate students take their major in economic sociology annually
- 35-40 graduate students are enrolled for Master’s program in Sociology of markets annually
Laboratory for Studies in Economic Sociology (LSES)
- LSES was established in 2006 at the Department of Sociology, Higher School of Economics
- LSES head – professor Vadim Radaev, First Vice-Rector of HSE, Chair of Economic Sociology
- LSES involve 25 senior and junior research fellows
